Woodland Church
About Us...

We are conveniently located just 5 blocks off of US - 2 (Cloverland Drive) on Curry Street in Ironwood, Michigan and only 3 blocks from Gogebic Community College campus.

If you are visiting or plan to visit our area known as the Big Snow Country, local attractions include Black Jack Mountain, Big Powderhorn Mountain, Indianhead Mountain, Mount Zion, Copper Peak Ski Jump, the World's Tallest Indian: Hiawatha and Lake Superior. Stop in and visit Woodland Church when you are here!

Our church was established in 1887 and in August, 2012 we reached a milestone; we celebrated our 125th anniversary. What a fun time we all had looking back over the many years of glorifying God.

We are a Baptist Church and are affiliated with the Great Lakes Baptist Conference and the Baptist General Conference. We have an open door policy, we welcome and encourage all to join us for our services and fellowships.

We video record our Sunday messages. They are available for viewing on You Tube search: woodland1102.

                                       OUR OBJECTIVES:
The Woodland Church exists to acknowledge God as supreme, to enjoy, cherish and honor Him in order to accomplish His purpose. To embrace the new life in Christ according to 2 Corinthians 5:17. If anyone is in Christ, he or she is a new creation, the old has gone, the new has come.

We have an indoor, walk-in, baptismal tub right here in the church which is very much a blessing. I'm sure that anyone who lives in or has visited the "Big Snow Country" can agree with that. A lake baptism around this area would most often be mighty chilly when anywhere from 3 to 6 months out of any given year the lakes have ice in them.
Pastor Mike will baptize any Born-Again Believer yet in need of being a "Doer of the Word." Talk with him ahead of time so he can speak with you about scripture, truth and your beliefs. He'll also need time to make arrangements to have the tub filled and heated.

                                Are YOU SAVED?
Do you know what it means to be saved? It means that you have accepted Jesus
Christ as Lord and Savior of  your life and that you know when you die you will
spend eternity in heaven with Him. Are you wondering what you have to do to be
saved? It's very easy. God's grace makes salvation available to everyone who
believes in Him and asks Him into their heart. There is only one way to be saved
and that is by GRACE (God's gift) you can not work your way into heaven. Apart
from grace, on your own, you can never do enough good to get in and because of
God's Faithfulness to Forgive us, you can never do enough bad to stay out, if you
confess your sins to Him and repent (turn from your sinful ways.)
Romans 10:9-11 tells us how we are saved. "That if you confess with your
mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him
from the dead, you will be saved. For it is, with your heart that you
believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess
 and are saved."

There are no exact right or wrong words to use as you do this, let it come from
your heart. If you need help, you can use this prayer. As you pray, believe in your
heart and confess it out loud.
Dear God,
I believe that Jesus Christ is Your only begotten Son, that
He came down to earth in the flesh and died on the cross to
take away all of my sins and the sins of this world. I believe
that He rose from the dead on the third day to give all of us
 eternal life.
I confess to you all of the wrong and sinful things
that I have done in my life. I ask that you forgive me and wash
away all of my sins by the blood that You have personally shed
for me on the cross. I am now ready to accept You, Jesus, as my
personal Lord and Savior. I ask You to come into my heart, my
life and live with me for all of eternity.
I now believe that I am truly saved and born again.
                                                                   Thank You Jesus, Amen.

If you have just accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, Congratulations! And
Welcome to the Body of Christ!  Now, tell somebody about it. Tell us!  email now.
If you are still thinking about being saved, you aren't sure yet this is right for you
and you want to know more first, contact Pastor Mike personally and

What to Expect at a Woodland Church service

I'm New so I Have Some Questions???

What should I wear to church?

We invite you come to Woodland just as YOU are. We are pretty casual, some will be wearing jeans and some will be dressed up a bit more. You might find our Pastor wearing a suit or jeans or slacks and a casual shirt. You’ll see all kinds of people of various ages at Woodland, so if you have a funky hair style or tattoos don’t feel like you need to change that or cover them up before you come.

What should I bring?

If you have a bible at home, you are encouraged to bring it along. That way, you can take notes or underline things right within your own bible for your later reference. If you don’t have a bible, there are plenty available in the pews for you to use. We also show the scriptures up on the big screen at the front of the sanctuary so if you have trouble seeing print out of a book you can read them there.

Where should I sit?

Once you arrive, you’ll be greeted at the door with a smile and a bulletin. From there, you are welcome to sit anywhere you like in the sanctuary.

Will I stand out in the crowd as a new person or be asked
to do anything weird?

Rest assured you won’t. We actively work to maintain our sense of a smaller community so don’t be surprised when somebody welcomes you and introduces themselves if you don’t look familiar to them, but outside of that, we are confident that you will blend in right along with the rest of the congregation. We want your time with us to be enjoyable and we will not do anything to put you on the spot, make you feel uncomfortable or cause you to stand out in the crowd.

Is there a Nursery and/or Children's Church?

A nursery is available during the service for your use, however, it is no longer staffed; you will need to supervise your children. We do have children's church during the service for ages pre-K and up. (Children's church runs the same schedule as the local schools allowing the children to have the summers off for fun and vacationing with family.) Your children are more than welcome to stay in the sanctuary with you during the worship service if they prefer not to attend the children's service.

What does the worship service look like?

Our services always begin with welcoming and prayer followed by the announcements. The Worship Team comes out next to lead the congregation with musical Praise and Worship. On the 1st Sunday of each month we will then offer Communion, you are welcome to participate or abstain at your own discretion. This all is followed by a teaching from God’s Word with relevant application to your daily life. The total worship service lasts about one to one and a half hours. Fellowship with food/snacks in the fellowship hall begins immediately after the service. We encourage you to stay for this also.

Do I have to believe in God/Jesus to come to church at Woodland?

The short answer is... NO! We have people at all points in their spiritual journey sitting in our pews. Some have been Christians most of their lives, some brand new in their walk with Christ and others still who are just exploring faith and aren’t sure yet what they believe. You are welcome no matter where you're at.
Please know that it would be our honor and privilege to answer any questions you might at any point have about church, the Bible or Christianity in general. That’s a huge part of what Woodland is all about!

Still have more questions or want to get involved?

Usually you will see the pastor and other ministry volunteers walking around before and after the service. Don’t hesitate to ask any one of these people. But let's say you’re too shy or can’t find one of them, then you can send an email to pastormike@woodlandchurchironwood.com and he’ll do his best to answer your questions. See you soon!   email now
